BKN: What do you do, and how long have you been doing it?

CS: Yours Truly Consignment is an upscale ladies’ consignment shop – we have clothing, accessories, and even a lower level with furniture and household items. We’ve been in business for 31 years, I have been working with the original owner for 16 years, and effective Aug 1st of this year, I assumed ownership of the store! The former owner was ready to retire, and I decided I’d never be ok if I didn’t give it my all to make it work, and it was now or never. The former owner is like a second mother to me - and she has three boys, so I’ve been like her daughter to her. She now gets to do what she likes to do, but she has been mentoring and coaching me.

BKN: Who is your best customer or target customer?

CS: Ladies who like great customer service and interesting, different pieces - we’re like 100 stores in one with items from different countries, local artists’ handmade jewelry pieces, big name brands like Ann Taylor & Chicos – there is something for everyone.

BKN: What has been the biggest impact of COVID-19 on your business?

CS: The fear that has been instilled in the general public. We had to close for almost 2 months at the beginning of this, and now that we have re-opened, it is still affecting the customer flow because not everybody is comfortable coming out.

BKN: What are 1 or 2 actions you’ve taken because of the pandemic?

CS: We clean and disinfect everything, have hand sanitizer available, we wear our masks and have masks available for customers, and I’m also posting more on social media so that people can see items that they wouldn’t see if they aren’t coming in the store. We offer curbside pickup, so customers can pay over the phone and have a contactless pickup.

BKN: What has been your biggest learning since becoming a business owner?

CS: You never know what goes on to make a small business run. They say if you make your job look easy, you’re doing it right. I have a true respect for small business owners who put in the hours and the work that people will never see. I’m also thankful that over time you develop relationships and friendships with people - you never know who is going to come through the door.

BKN: Do you have any offers you would like to include?

CS: We always have daily sales, and we’d like to offer an additional 10% off of your purchase if you mention this article.

BKN: What is inspiring you today?

CS: I’m inspired by trying to keep this business going for many more years to come. I've always had the importance of a good attitude instilled in me - doing the best you can every day - and I’m really motivated to continue on this legacy and make it an enjoyable shopping experience for years to come.
