BKN: What do you do, and for how long have you been doing it?

TB: I am a Charlotte Native, and have worked in the Life Insurance business for 18.5 years. I started with New York Life in January of this year. I am an independent insurance agent and love being able to help in the community, provide protection for families and believe this is my calling, not just a job.

BKN: Who is your best customer or target customer?

TB: My best customer is anyone from days old to 65 years old. I want to reach the people in their 20s to 40s, newlyweds, families with young children, and individuals preparing for their future.

BKN: What has been the biggest impact of COVID-19 on your business?

TB: The inability to have face to face meetings. It is tough to reach people, and I found it challenging to have discussions with people about life insurance in the midst of a pandemic.

BKN: What are 1 or 2 actions you've taken because of the pandemic, and how are they working?

TB: I made the move to online meetings through Zoom and reached out to current clients for referrals. I’m gaining momentum now that things are a little more normal and it is possible to have safe face-to-face meetings – outside, with masks – being very careful to ensure safety for all.

BKN: What has been your biggest learning since you've been a business owner?

TB: I kind of fell into it while marketing a side business, and I wanted a job with a lot of meaning – so the emotional connection with people has been important to me. I get to hear their stories and empathize with their loss, and be a someone they can trust to help them have a better protected future.

BKN: Any offers to include in the newsletter?

TB:  I have free learning events on Zoom to share.

BKN: What is most inspiring to you today?

TB: Because people have been cooped up in the house, it has brought families together and made them closer, since they’ve doing meals together, spending time and bonding with one another.
