BKN: Coach Beverly Kiser-Nutt
CC: Chad Collins, owner of Chad Collins and Associates Accounting Firm
BKN: Tell me a little bit about what you do and how long you've been doing it.
CC: We are a small boutique accounting firm located in Greensboro, NC. We started in a November of 2015. We serve clients across NC and 9 states.
BKN: Who is your best customer or target customer?
CC: Small business owners with 10 – 20 employees and $5-10 million in revenue. We are able to be their controller, CFO, bookkeeper and do payroll.
BKN: What has been the biggest impact of COVID-19 on your business?
CC: We have had to adapt to help clients with the CARES Act and tax credits. We’ve had to be flexible and protect them in areas of vulnerability.
BKN: What are 1 or 2 actions that you’ve taken during the pandemic, and how are they working?
CC: We adapted quickly, encrypted email for document exchange to provide security for clients, and started using Zoom and Google Meets. They’re working well because we adapted quickly. We have reduced time-wasters such as the commute to and from work, we have less disruptions, and overall, more productivity.
BKN: What has been your biggest learning since you became a business owner?
CC: Everything you thought you know goes out the window. All the preparation in the world doesn’t prepare you for what may come. Be flexible and adaptable when things you never saw coming hit you. If you can't flex and adapt, you're not going to be a very happy human being in life, because it's always changing.
BKN: What is most inspiring to you?
CC: The people I work with: seeing the way they have pivoted in COVID-19.
