Spotlight: Carolina Elite

CP: Colin Peet, Marketing Manager

NM: Nicholas Minney, owner of Carolina Elite Trampoline Academy


CP: What do you do and how long have you done it?

NM: We've been open for 2 years and we teach tumbling and trampoline gymnastics-- gymnastics but on a trampoline. Beginners up to highest levels that support the National and International competitive levels.

CP: Who would you describe as your best customer or target customer?

NM: Our competition team athletes are in the gym several times a week. The ones training are here 10-20 hours a week. But the bulk of our business is with the more recreational kids.

CP: What has been the biggest impact of COVID-19 on your business?

NM: Competition and large events were completely shut down. Big disappointment. We had two athletes that were on the Olympic long list and competing for a couple of those spots. It was tough. It has been delayed but we will have another shot. All the business had to shut down and we were scared. We had to make a lot of cuts but we survived.

CP: What are one or two actions you've taken because of the pandemic?

NM: We had a learning curve with Zoom. Doing Zoom fitness classes but it would give some stability and interaction with coaches. Nothing can replace the in person interaction.We cut down our class size and one class at a time. We spread out our day to get everyone in safely. Cleaning, between classes, hand sanitation, wearing mask and staying 6 feet apart.

CP: What has been your biggest learning since you've been a business owner?

NM: We have a lot of great customers and some that are not the best. Don't carry stress over to your good customers. We have been able to get support some excellent customers. We are like a family.

CP: Do you have any offers you want to include in the newsletter?

NM: We offer people can try us out totally free before they sign up. We want people to know they will be happy and it's a good fit.

CP: What is most inspiring to you right now?

NM: Teaching the kids that have zero confidence in their skills and seeing them grow with confidence with learning their skill. I get to see the fall downs and seeing them through the learning process. I get to see them complete that cartwheel, back flip or triple back flip and to me that is inspiring. I remind them that this is the process for everything in life. Whether they are getting a new job, starting a new business, getting into a relationship they have to start from zero and build from there.
