BKN: Tell me about bit about what you do and how long you’ve been doing it.
JB: I’m the Chief Strategy Consultant of AJOY Consulting, which I founded in 2018. AJOY Consulting offers project management, strategic business planning, facilitation, event production and language services. Consulting appealed to me because I love learning - each project brings a new learning opportunity, as well as a challenge, but most importantly I really enjoy seeing my clients grow. I also do business counseling for some community colleges in the Triangle area.
BKN: Who is your best customer or target customer?
JB: Small to medium sized businesses that need to clarify their vision and are looking for new ways to adapt to the recent changes, and anyone who is open to a new approach and want to go beyond the status quo.
BKN: What has been the biggest impact of COVID-19 on your business?
JB: Actually, I’m so grateful that I actually got new business through COVID-19. On the event production side, I did switch from in-person to virtual events and made sure that the content was engaging and relevant.
BKN: What has been your biggest learning since you became a business owner?
JB: Keep thinking big. That's what drives me - one of the first things I asked my clients is, “in a perfect world without any limitations, what does your goal look like?”. I tap into those things and bring out what most people can’t see yet, because it's not tangible and most people think it’s impossible. Turning nothing into something is what drives me and makes me excited.
BKN: Any offers you would like to include in the newsletter?
JB: $25 off of a project consulting session if you mention this interview
BKN: What is most inspiring to you today?
JB: The first thing that is inspires me is the desire to consistently outperform myself. The second thing is my daughter. The third is my family and the achievements of my ancestors - I have a desire to leave a positive impact on the world.
